New Apartment, New Responsibilities and New Ways to Make Money

You made it. You got out on your own and found yourself an apartment. It may not be where you see yourself forever, but it’s yours and you’re very proud of it. You’ve gotten it all set up, you had your friends over, you even had an official housewarming party. Now though, things have settled and you can’t sleep. You feel anxious, and you’re starting to feel something that you’re not hugely familiar with: Worry. You’re worrying about money and doing this all on your own now.

This worry is a normal part of life. Anxiety and worry, however, are usually just a product of not being prepared for the unknown. All you need is to make yourself feel more prepared. You’ll see that once you feel more organized and more ready for things, then the worry will start to fade. You’re doing what you’re supposed to be, let’s just make you feel more comfortable with it.

If you’ve gotten into your apartment already, chances are you began saving money prior the move. But, maybe you spent all of that in the moving process. Moving has a way of costing more than people anticipate, so if this happened to you, you’re not alone. Whatever the case may be, having a savings account with any amount of money, that you don’t touch unless you have to is a great way to give yourself some peace of mind when you are now the sole provider for yourself.

Many of us do our banking online now. You’ll want to look for the best online savings account before just signing up for the first one you can find. Savings accounts are not all created equally. You’ll want to look at what the APY is on the account. Also, look at any fees associated with the account. And definitely make sure you check to see if there is a minimum balance or any other conditional terms that you have to meet to qualify for the stated APY.

Having money stashed away in an account that is going to earn you a little bit of interest. Аt the same time it will help you to feel prepared for any kind of financial blow that could come up unexpected. You don’t want to feel like you can’t pay your rent if your car breaks down. Life can be expensive and unpredictable sometimes, so the more prepared you are, the more secure you will feel.

A new apartment can be the cause of some emergencies

So, your savings account is your backup. You can backup that savings account also. Find a good credit card to open that can serve as an emergency card. Make sure you do your research and get one that doesn’t have some huge annual fee. Maybe see if you can find one that earns you rewards so that when you do use it, you get a little something in return.

Spend a little time comparing how easy it is to get approved, look at the different percentage rates the companies charge for types of transactions, and maybe even see if there are transaction fees for traveling certain places if you’re someone who does that. Just make sure you keep the card with an open balance so that if something should come up, and you’ve already tapped out your savings, then you have somewhere else to pull from.

Living on your own is expensive. If you’ve never done it before, you may not know how much it costs to use electricity and gas, stock the fridge and the pantry every week, run WiFi for your home, and everything else that comes along with having your own place.

The good news is, you’re not the only person around who is finding that out. Chances are, there is someone close by who is finding that very same thing out at the very same time. That person might make for a perfect roommate. If you’ve got a place that has an open bedroom, consider finding someone to stay there. Having a roommate means you don’t have to pay for all of the groceries, the Internet services, or the rest of the bills. You and your roommate will both have more money to spend and use on other, more important matters.
