18 Millionth Bitcoin to be Mined Today: Implications

Today will most likely be the day when the 18 millionth bitcoin will be mined. The co-founder of the investment company Morgan Creek Digital Assets Anthony Pompliano emphasized that there are only 3 million left.

Pompliano is attempting to use this information to spread awareness about bitcoin:

“There’s only #3MillionLeft. Let’s make this hashtag trend so the world can learn about bitcoin.”

Pompliano is one of the most well-known crypto investors. He has stated numerous times that he believes bitcoin will replace fiat. He has also publicly revealed that unlike many other chest thumpers who scream about supporting bitcoin, he actually puts his money where his mouth is and has over 50% of his net worth in bitcoin.

The 18 millionth bitcoin will most likely be seen today

According to the bitcoin data website BitcoinBlockHalf – 17 998 300 bitcoins have been mined so far. Most people should be aware, but the total amount of bitcoins which will ever be created is 21 million.

The 18 millionth bitcoin mark is also pushing us ever so slowly towards the bitcoin halving. The bitcoin halving will have the amount of bitcoin created with each new block reduced by 50%.

According to the BitcoinBlockHalf, the halving will take place around the 14th of May 2020. It’s quite hard to pinpoint the date since bitcoin blocks are quire irregular. The end result is will be however, that all block rewards will be cut from the current 12.5 coins to 6.25. Additionally, it’s important to know that 85.7% of all bitcoins have already been mined.
